Qinghai province is briefly named Qing, got is name from the Qinghai Lake - the largest inland salt-water lake in China. With high mountains and long rivers, Qinghai is the headstream of Yellow River, Yangtze River and Lancang River, producing abundance of high-head water resources. Mother Nature has endowed Qinghai with unique sceneries, such as the Qinghai Lake, Three-River Headsteam Area as well as the Mengda Natural Reserves which is given the name of “Xi shuang ban na on the Plateau”. Qinghai province has more than 700 cultural sceneries, in which 430 are ancient cultural vestiges, including ancient cultural sites, tombs, towns, architectures and roads. In addition, there are also about 240 religious culture sites in Qinghai.
Xining is the capital city of Qinghai Province. It is also the center of Qinghai's politics, economy and culture as well as the hub of communication. It has a total area of 3,456 square kilometers, of which the urban area is 350 square kilometers. Xining has a total population of 1,239,800, of which 780,700 are inhabitants.
